Scrolls of Noctis #5 – Bare Bones

The following is the in-character diary entry of Shal Noctis, a character in the live-play TTRPG podcast Spooky Dice Bag. This entry covers episode 148 – “Much Ado About Statue.” You can listen to the episode below.

1498 DR – Day 73,998 – Planning and Formal Introductions

With Randril, Umbra, and I having managed to get the statue of Marhammor to their room at The Shitty Mule, we laid as low as we could as we waited for the rest of the party to return. Regrettably, the elixirs were overly potent and Randril and Umbra were both quite drunk. Despite the strength leaving their bodies, the potent potable resulted in Randril trying to “jump the bed” continuously.

I was mostly nervous about the situation given my undead nature. There had been little time for questions or much of a formal introduction. I hoped that aiding them in spiriting away the statue of Marhammor would allow me a chance to make an introduction. Particularly one where I would not immediately be killed.

Eventually, Forte, Deliverance, and Astrid made their way to the room where we were hiding out. There seemed to be some confusion about a key phrase. As I understand it, it was “When the shadows dance, the veil whispers.” Had I had a chance to write it down earlier it might have saved the group some time and debate.

The immediate concern when we reconvened was what to do about the statue. The plan began to emerge, but before we got too deep into the process, I took the chance and introduced myself to them fully.

Making an introduction…

I did not mean to dump my trauma, but the fact they did not immediately try to kill me upon learning I am undead gave me some small allowance to put myself out there. Taking their questions, I told them a bit about the circumstances of my awakening and acknowledged that some of their magic would quite easily destroy me.

I also removed my traveler’s cloak. it was a very vulnerable moment, and I considered it to be very brave of me. Astrid seemed particularly kind; apparently, she has spent time tending to the dead. It might be nice to have someone help patch me up.

What intrigued me most, however, was the mention of Strixhaven. If there was anywhere that might have some clues as to the history of my order, it would be there.

But, the statue of Marhammor was the immediate concern.

To be continued in Spooky Dice Bag #149.
