Today’s sketchbook update is just a drawing of a terminally over-employed elder millennial goth and her assigned emotional support goblin.
This is some key art for a comic strip I have wanted to create for a while now.
“Thorn By My Side” is a simple comic strip that follows one elder millennial with all the jobs, Rose, who struggles with work/life balance and pursuing her interests. Her existence is even tougher thanks to her assigned emotional support goblin, Thorn.
The strip is meant to be a throwback to classic newspaper comics, as I’ve always wanted to create strips published in a newspaper. One of the running gags is that the reader is never quite sure how many jobs Rose has beyond a couple of recurring ones for locations to round out the cast.
Here are some examples of early concept work.
Would you be interested in a run of “Thorn By My Side” comics?
Believe me, I would love to make the comic strip a reality, however, much like Rose I am working several jobs. However, if you help support me through donations on Ko-Fi, maybe I will be able to drop a job or two to free up time for this comic. I also take commissions.
